The North Devon Motor Club has enjoyed a long association with Chivenor, albeit intermittently dependant on the needs of the Ministry of Defence. The first events were held in 1977 where, at the two meetings in May and July, Terry Smith from Bristol took the first FTD’s with his awesome 5 litre Brabham BT35X – reaching over 120mph on the back straight.
Over the past nearly 50 years several different track arrangements have been used mostly designed by our own very experienced course creator, Robert Cocker, culminating in last year’s well-received two-mile course with its fantastic straight line drag all the way to the quarter mile split. The purposeful approach within the club remains as positive as it did back in the 70’s and, surprisingly enough, there are a number of today’s organisers who were there at the start!
Thank you to all competitors and Marshals/Officials for making the 2024 event a great success and hopefully we can do it all again in 2025.
